It was a sad day
When the soldier lost his leg
He was trying to run
Yet his body remained still
But he couldnt find his leg
The enemies were surrounding him
But he found himself hopeless
He thought he was going to die
Then his comrades came
They pulled him out
They helped him through
Until he got to the hospital
The doctor said the soldier would be fine
Or so he thought at first
But the x-rays revealed
His leg would be forever gone
They offered him a leg replacement
Which he gladly took,
For he wanted to fight again
Leading his comrades into battle
With or without his own leg
He understood he had a job to finish
He would go back to Iraq
To finish what he started
He was a commander on the surface
And a soldier at heart
Though he missed his family
And loved them too
He knew he would come back
Someday, sooner or later
To meet his waiting family
Who would always love him
