Journalistic Writing Assignment: Interview with a classmate

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

Okay, we were assigned to interview one of our fellow classmates in Journalistic Writing (JW). The partners were chosen randomly, however, the person I ended up with, Naomi, is my ex, which made the interview kinda ackward. From now on, I think I will refer to people by codenames, unless I get permission to use their real name… I do respect people’s privacy. Anyways, here is what I wrote for it:

“I want the sky to be blue again!” she wimpers on a cloudy afternoon. Naomi Langworthy is a scropio born in 1989, with a 17 year old sister Elinor, who she gets along with well. Her parents are not divorced and they all live a happy life.
Naomi’s an athletic girl who loves soccer and does Track during the spring. She spends most of her time doing homework, practicing for sports, and talking with friends and family.
Being in the Japanese Immersion Program, Naomi has traveled to Japan with her class two times. Recently, she has been to Canada for a weekend where she ate icecream, went shopping, did “adult things” (that I took out at her request, but since no teacher will be reading this, I put it back in), and hung out with her friends and family.

Cross Country

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

Well, I ran my first meet for cross country this season, my first time running 5k… I don’t know how I did, I guess considering I’ve been practicing for just a week, and I had some issue’s over the summer that I’ve been recovering from, 33rd place at 21:35 isn’t that bad… I would like to move it up a lot more though. My third lap is what got me, I nearly threw up…. :-(
Other then that… I thought I had fun… lol, but, I totally forgot to get my chapter 6 handout for my AP American History class, so I’m going to have to read that whole thing, and write a 2-3 page outline tomorrow night! I love the class, it’s such a challenge.

What’s with Fox and good TV Series’?

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

I don’t get it… I’m like in love with the TV series Firefly, and Tru Calling, but Fox canceled both of them. They’re both great shows, and I want to see the ending of them! Firefly didn’t even get to finish it’s first season, Tru Calling didn’t get to finish it’s second.

Google doing Torrent search?

Saturday, September 24th, 2005

Hiroshi and Charlie came over today and we are planning on finishing the podcast, playing games, doing homework, and just hang out… While searching for a torrent for Mac Dre’s Thizzle dance, we googled “mac dre video torrent” and it redirected to: http://www.google.com/torrents.php?ihq=mac+dre&ext=&op=and
Why? we don’t know, I tried re-searching it, without the same effect, and I don’t know what’s up with that. We didn’t click any buttons either, it just… redirected to it.
Maybe it’s just a glitch or something (which I highly doubt, there wasn’t anything remotely related to that in the search results). If they are creating a torrent search, why? What does google have to benifit from it? Maybe serving their own video?

Apple’s new iPod, Frisbee & Cross Country, Work Load

Monday, September 12th, 2005

A few things that have been on my mind recently, and since I haven’t been posting that often, I’ll post my thoughts on them.
First, is the iPod nano. I know that Apple stopped shipping USB cables with iPods a while ago, which I thought was a bummer. I have a 4 year old iBook (I have Tiger installed on it and it runs fine), and the only high speed connectors it has is Ethernet and FireWire 400.
With the iPod nano, not only did they not include a FireWire cable, but they also stopped support for it all together! I’m hoping to get a new computer as soon as Apple get’s its Intel powered laptops out, but until then, I’m stuck with what I’ve got, and that’ll make it a long wait to transfer 1000 songs to the iPod nano… not that I’m going to be getting one anytime soon.

I played frisbee for the first time today (well, like, actually played…. not a game, just passed around with a group of friends for like an hour), and it was pretty fun. When they start a frisbee club I’ll be in. Cross country! My o-so-beloved sport… lol, I finally got the registration papers for it today, and I’m going to ask my mom to fill it out. Yesterday I went running with Hiroshi for about an hour. We ran 5 miles!!!! How slow! lol… It was a work out for me though, I hadn’t ran since that one time in Japan… so I was totally out of shape, and since I’m going to get back on the team, I don’t want to be back on the Freshman team! (I want to be at least on JV, there’s no way I can get on Varsity *this* year, maybe next).

Now that it’s been about three school days into school, the teachers are starting to up the homework-load. Thus I gotta get my act together and after this I’m gonna start with finishing the hardest, AP American History. I’m gonna be getting an hour of homework a night for that class, and probably 2 hours over the weekend. The fun part of more work, is I feel the rush. I love the rush. It’s what motivates me.

School starts!

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

Hurray, school has started again (I guess it could also be boo, but I was kinda bored of doing nothing all day at my house). My classes are:
Algebra 2, AP American History, Study Hall *(I’m planning on changing this, but I need to arrange an appointment with my counselor next week), Japanese Lit & Media, *Lunch*, Journalistic Writing, Chemistry, and last but not least, Japan Meets West.
All of these classes are fun so far. The teachers are great, I know some people in all the classes. Except for Chemistry, which I know no one in, but the teacher is great.

For Journalism, I’m probably going to be posting my work on this blog, maybe you might read something interesting then! lol.
AP American History is a college level class, and if I pass the AP test later this school year, then I don’t have to take US History when I get into college! Hurrah! However…. guess what the passing rate for the AP US History test is… it’s just about 50%!!!!
So I need to pass that, on top of all the other school related homework, and also study more Japanese on my own time… God I love a challenge!

The Apple Store is down while they update it!

Wednesday, September 7th, 2005

Ooh, they’re updating the online store! Can’t wait to see what is new!

Update:
New products released! The iPod Nano! I’m hoping to save up money to get the new ROKR phone, then the nano. Reasons: my American cellphone right now is outdated, and my current iPod will suffice until I have enough money to get both… But of course, a new iBook would be nice, I’ll probably get the Intel version when it comes out next year, that way there’s more then enough time to save up money.

I like Monkeys

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

I Like Monkeys is a pretty funny story, you have to read it. Got that link from So Sue Me. Some reverse engineer guy that’s pretty popular.

Apple’s going to release something new the day after tomorrow! I’m so excited. I’m kinda hoping for a whole new product, like, not a cellphone, but like, something new. Just like the iPod was 4 years ago, a new product in the market. But I doubt it, I’ve read on Think Secret and AppleInsider that the upcoming … meeting (I just blanked on the word I wanted to use)… is going to be centered around the new Motorola-iTunes compatible phone using the Cingular Wireless network.
