Flickr for Video?

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

I’ve been wanting a place that will host video files, where I have full control (can delete, edit, etc. after I upload it the first time), archive.org lets you upload any type, but it stays there forever, and you can’t do anything about it… So i went on a search for something that was like Flickr, but for video.

Here are three candidates I have:

  • YouTube
YouTube has a limit of 100 MB per video. It plays the video in Flash, has friends, most popular and favorites.
  • Vimeo
Vimeo has a weekly limit of 20 MB, just like Flickr. No Flash interface, it has friends, favorites and most popular.
  • Dailymotion
Is in french, from what I could tell using the bablefish translator, doesn’t have a file size limit, or weekly limit, but has like limits on the encoding of the video… it is very possible that I’m wrong about this one.

Although YouTube has the nice 100 MB per video, it proccesses itself to put it in the Flash applet, and if you took the video in widescreen (16:9) format, well… it’ll be distorted.

Vimeo has a 20 MB / week limit, but, it keeps the video the way you uploaded it without modifying it.

My choice: Vimeo!
Here’s my vimeo link: enderateros

Arctic money? Intel, Blogging, and an iPod Video?

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

Well, there goes the efforts to stop global warming. If this actually becomes a good business, and all the major companies move there, the government will have a harder time enforcing environmentally friendly laws, because they will say “we have this much more oil!”
As Polar Ice Turns to Water, Dreams of Treasure Abound

Yay! The faster Intel comes out with better chips, the better the first generation Mactel’s will be!
Intel hustles for dual-core Xeon debut

I was… hung up on this one. On one hand, blog’s do have some unreliable bloggers out there (maybe me included in that), but on the other hand, blog’s are the future of news. They need just as much protection, because it will be independant and depending on who you choose to read/listen/watch, it has the probablilty of being unbiased, which is important in determining facts on your own.
Senator: Bloggers will “probably not” be deemed journalists

iPod video? Likely! That’s pretty cool, though, I also release the slimmer iPods with more capacity tomorrow.
Video after all?

Also: tomorrow I have a cross country meet! cheer me on!
AND: someone get me a flickr pro account as a gift please!

What’s your startpage?

Friday, October 7th, 2005

Startpages, homepages, whatever you want to call them, are useful. What do you have as yours?
I used to have a blank one, that way I can type the url that I want to go to quickly, without having to use my mouse. But, after some time, and some maturing, I prefer to read the news first, before I go off and download anime. Apple’s startpage, isn’t that useful, it’s not updated as much, and no personalization, which I prefer. Netscape’s startpage… too many ads, same with Yahoo and AOL. Then there’s dvorak’s idea, which is create your own static one so it loads fast… That’s fun, but it doesn’t have updated news.
I like Google’s personalized homepage/startpage. I think it’s great, you can choose what you want on it, wether it be an RSS feed from your favorite blog, weather, or a news site’s RSS feed. It loads pretty fast, and I use most of the sources.

Here’s what my startpage looks like, in PDF form.

Cool new things

Friday, October 7th, 2005

I’ve known this for a while, and I’d like to be able to use it, but the Internet Archive is free hosting for media files! (the down side, or maybe upside, is that you can’t delete whatever you upload)

Something new: The Weblog Handbook… I’m gonna read through that, maybe my posts will become more interesting.

[EDITED: 10/7/05 @ 21:53]:
I think the Blog Ethics rules are a good idea, and I’ll do my best to keep to it. As an overview, here are the 6 rules:
1. Publish as fact only that which you belive to be true.
2. If material exists online, link to it when you reference it.
3. Publicly correct any misinformation.
4. Write each entry as if it could not be changed; add to, but do not rewrite or delete, any entry.
5. Disclose any conflict of interest.
6. Note questionable and biased sources.

So from now on, whenever I have edits or corrections to make to my posts it will have the [EDITED: DATE @ TIME]: (new/edited content) format. Just like in this post.

iFizzle (OSX Interfaced blog), Google Reader

Friday, October 7th, 2005

This guy has put some tremendous work into creating his blog. I mean, it looks great! It would be so cool if he could make like a ‘net’ OS that like loads in your window, so it’s like using your computer, but not…

I also tried out one of Google’s new lab pet, Google Reader. It was just released, so I’m expecting a lot of fixes, but it loads slow, you can’t control much of your feed, it doesn’t undsubscribe properly, and there are no preferences at all. I’m looking forward to seeing an update to it.

RIAA & Apple, Bush, The Internet, Google & Yahoo

Friday, October 7th, 2005

Why is the RIAA insisting on upping the prices for the iTunes download service? They say their reasoning is that the artists deserve more, but at $.99 a pop, they take aobut $.70 of that! (Source) Now their asking for more? I think that’s a bit too much, they’re being way too greedy.
The Story

Bush is going to ruin the world with his last 2 and a bit years left. He’s all for making the governement Christian, thinks abortion is wrong, lies to the American public, and the list just goes on. Now he’s trying to be smart by re-wording what he says, to make the public think they still need to be in Iraq. The whole thing is getting boring, his original intent for going to Iraq is gone, it’s probably the Saudi Arabian’s who did most of the terrorist work, and Osama bin Laden isn’t even in Iraq. Bush is all about making money, and doesn’t care about anything else. I’ll just leave it at that.
The Story

The Internet is a necessity in life now, and I don’t think America should be the one who has monopoly over it. It’d definately be weird to have multiple internet networks, all the data wouldn’t be centralized anymore, and the Internet would… well, become useless for many.
Story 1
Story 2

I’d hate to have a blackout to the Internet, I mean, I spend so much time on it! But it seems like Level 3 and Cogent are having some social issues about peering. I think if it is true that Level 3 is larger then Cogent, but not by much, then Cogent should pay a small fee, but for Level 3 to sever their connection is a bad idea. Maybe there should be another company to do all of the interlinks between the large networks and charge everyone a small fee for it?
The Story

I mostly use Google’s services. I have Yahoo! IM just incase I meet someone who only has Yahoo!, and I had Flickr before it was bought by Yahoo!, but now since it is, that’s just another service I’m using from them. Other then that though, I think Google is better. The search is more familiar, the email is ad free (text ads on the side don’t bug me at all, and I never even notice them). And the new personlized homepage thing, I’m loving it!
The Story (Which might have nothing to do with what I just said… lol)

An updated schedule for my Japan dreams

Friday, October 7th, 2005

The High School that I’m trying to get into is the Tokyo Gakugei University Department of Education attached High School. Basically, the high school is part of the University. There’s a guidance meeting on 10/08/05 (Japan time) that my aunt is going to go to to get information on the conditions for the candidates, and how to apply (what I need to know, etc.).
I need to be ready to apply for the school between January 10-17, and go back to Japan for the exam in the beginning of February (the exam is on February 7, 2006).

I’m really excited about this, and I hope I’ve got the smarts to get in!

More refineries? A new browser. Global Warming. Video iPod? Our every move will be watched!

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005

Bush is making more refineries! I can’t belive it! Aren’t we poluting enough, I mean, global warming is already having a huge effect on not just us, but everything! (ie. wildlife, weather, etc.) I’d personally make a $1 gas tax, and use that to help pay for better education, more efficient cars, and space exploration.
The Story.

Flock, a new browser, which I am hoping is also compatible with Mac, is said to be a more ’social’ browser. It’s in beta testing, and they’re doing the same thing as Google did with Gmail at first, sending invites for people to download it. I hope I can get a copy!
The Story.

Global warming is already changing the way birds migrate, and is already making animals go extinct! When are we humans going to help fix the problem we started? If we’re always interested in money, the human race is doomed.
The Story.

A new video iPod to be released on October 12th? Who knows, maybe it will, maybe it wont. If it does, that means that Apple/Steve Jobs has found some content they can sell on the iTunes Music Store. Which would be cool… but I have a feeling it’d probably just be music videos.
The Story.

Okay, this story kinda pissed me off… It was talking all cool and stuff, then they have to make a christian version of the fucking book? What’s with the damn christians! Anyways, in the future, our every moves might be watched and recorded by the government and major corporations! I kinda think it’s cool there’s technology that does that, but I don’t want to be watched at what I do!
The Story.

PS>> I know not all christians are bad, it’s just the ones that have a voice that piss me off, “god loves you”, “abortion is wrong”, “only one wife at a time!”, “gay marriage is sin!”, etc…

Tucker Max

My friend chuckles showed me this site. Tucker is hilarious, I love the stories, and I wish I were old enough to try some of them.

I got blogged ’bout!

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

I’m kinda excited, I clicked on my “Who Links Here”, and found that MacStansbury.org blogged ’bout my blog on August 24th… It was a while ago, so he probably doesn’t read my blog anymore, but that’s pretty cool, I didn’t think I’d get noticed in the blogosphere… I mean, as you can see, I’m not a great writer, and half the time the stuff I write about is junk.

Gorillas evolving before our eyes? Christians trying to rule the world again?

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

A new study discovers that gorillas are now starting to use tools for practical purposes, like checking how deep the water is before getting in it. This was discovered in the Republic of Congo’s wildlife rainforest. It was also the first time a gorilla not in captivity to use a tool! So they are evolving, just like we did, a while back!
The Report

I can’t belive these christians, they’re trying to say that humans started from “Intelligent Design”. What the fuck, there’s like NO evidence of it, none whatsoever. There’s lots of evidence of Charles Darwin’s Evolution theory, but like, what are they trying to do? All it is is saying “god created us all” in a “scientific” way. This is why the world gets fucked up.
