I’ve been a GoDaddy customer ever since I bought my first domain name, enderstudios.com.
Back then I really was just ’starting’ in the business. I really didn’t have that much skill, and I did everything manually. No programs or content management systems. I also didn’t provide hosting or domain name services.
Later on I signed up with iPowerWeb and became a reseller for them. I’ve recommended their product to all of my customers and have most of them singed up with it.
Then during my Freshman year in high school, I wanted to make some changes. I wanted to be more serious about my company. So I changed the name to Amarimono, which came from a Japanese proverb “amarimono ni ha fuku ga aru” which means “there are fortunes in leftovers.”
Now, this has multiple meanings to it. It literally could mean in something of high value could have been leftover, but I interpreted it differently.
iPowerWeb was good. Not the best, but good. I love DreamHost the most though (hosting wise), and they have come up with their own ‘virtual dedicated server’ offering which seems pretty good. But their normal hosting plans beat EVERY OTHER COMPETITOR for price, storage, and features.
The sad part is, they don’t have a reseller system, and iPowerWeb doesn’t resell domain names.
So, what do I do next? I was thinking of keeping my iPowerWeb reseller account, use that to sell hosting, and then sign up with Tucows and use that reseller account to sell SSL Certificates and Domain names. But their prices weren’t the best.
Who did I look at next? Well GoDaddy of course. I knew they sold cheaper hosting than I could offer, and I knew they had a reseller account that resold EVERYTHING they sell. I took a look at their prices, and immediately got hooked.
I finally have one account where management of customers becomes that much easier. I don’t have to manage billing for it, the whole system is automated, and it gives me an opportunity to do what I like to do best. Create websites.
This is like the perfect opportunity for me. I don’t need to make much revenue off of domain names or hosting accounts, I just want to be able to provide to my customers the easiest way to have an online presence. And now it’s possible.
The only thing that is billed seperately to my customers now is any other service besides hosting, domain names, etc. Keeping it simple and offering good service is the best way to go.
