Apple’s intel computers have been phenominal. Everything from speed to sales, it’s all been going up.
The first thing I noticed when I touched my first mactel (intel mac) was the responsiveness of the OS in general. Finder windows open and closed without delays, iTunes opens up much faster, etc.
To most Mac users, this was a great improvement. We had been waiting for a speed increase for a while and the PowerPC wasn’t giving it to us.
To Windows users, it was like “an intel inside a mac… what’s so great about that.” and they still categorized Mac’s as PC-incompatible (even though we know Macs are very compatible with PC’s
)
That view changed when three different ways to run windows popped up on the net. One was for the tech-savvy people, the other for people who didn’t mind beta software (and restarting your mac everytime you wanted to switch OS’), and the last one for emulating it in Mac OS X.
The speed of Windows on Mac hardware was eye-popping. It was even faster than Windows on PC hardware in some cases! (Isn’t that funny)
Apple then started it’s Get a Mac campaign, and from the looks of it, seem to be a success. The market share is growing, and some analysts expect it to reach 8.3% worldwide by 2016!
For me, this is great. I’m already hearing about a lot of my friends wanting to buy Mac’s next. One of the things that is stopping them is still, software. It’s not the major software titles that they are worried about. It’s the small ones, like software that lets your cellphone connect to your Mac.
Apple’s got that part worked out pretty good on the US side, but in Japan, I doubt DoCoMo, AU or SoftBank have plans to release cell phone software for the Mac. However, I do think that if they do, a lot of more Japanese will switch to Macs.
I'm not finished with the design of my blog quite yet, please hold on while I fix the comments, archives, and search templates.
