This next election will be one of the most important ones in not just American history, but international history as well. America is in a war we don’t want to be in, the world faces global warming, our stance in the globalized world has weakened, and we need someone who can push us forward and bring the change that is needed. Someone who is young, who has grown up in a globalized world, who cares about our country’s role in this new world, and who isn’t afraid of going up against the threats of the 21st century (terrorists, communism, and in my opinion, lobbyists). We as a nation are not only responsible for ourselves in this new world, but we also have a responsibility of being the leader of the international community.
These are some of the things the next president will have to take responsibility for. What’s at stake here is not just the American way of life, but the world as we know it. In these next few months, I’ll be discussing why we need change, and why Obama is the right man to help lead that change.
(btw if you didn’t catch it already, I support Barack Obama for president)
I'm not finished with the design of my blog quite yet, please hold on while I fix the comments, archives, and search templates.

I like Obama but he’s not my first choice for president. The problem with the “we need change” argument is that everyone’s saying that. It’s obvious — America needs change. America has always and will always need change. It troubles me that Obama has built a good part of his campaign around a word, change, that has always been part of political vocabulary. The only way to run a campaign against an incumbent or an incumbent party is to market yourself as something different: here, Obama succeeds. He’s young, fresh, and wholly inspirational. He’s going to have to resolve some pretty dire situations: getting us out of Iraq without causing the region to collapse, balancing the budget/pulling the economy up, improving conditions at home, reforming the government, improving the status of the United States, advocating diplomacy, not warfare, and, in addition to other things, do all of these things in a small span of time without anything terrible happening.
It’s a hard job. It calls for a lot of intelligence, strength, and foresight, all of which he — and numerous other candidates — have. I’m still not convinced that he can do everything above, but I want him to have some part in the process, if not the presidency. He’s been my #2 for a while; let’s see if he can prove that he has what it takes.

I’m not trying to say it’s not obvious that America needs change… I just think that because Obama is newer to the game than the other candidates, and that he has a multicultural background and childhood experience, that he’ll be able to use that to bring new ideas to the table. Clinton’s old, no matter what she says she wont be able to think of fresh new things, she’s been in the game too long. Even though American might be ready for a female president, I don’t think the rest of the world (Muslim specifically) is.
